GRANTS & SUPPORT

  • Food System Vision Prize is inviting organizations to submit their vision of the regenerative and nourishing food system that they aspire to create by the year 2050. $2M will be distributed to the Top Visionaries, who will be eligible to receive a prize of $200,000 each. Early submission deadline: December 5, 2019.
  • Sustainability Challenge 2019 (SC2019) is calling for ideas from students from institutions, matriculations, foundations, polytechnics, universities and colleges by individual or group. Participants will be invited to the Competition Grand Finale at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, to present their ideas, on December 12, 2019.
  • ATSAF - CGIAR++ Junior Scientist Program is providing funding to students for thesis research at CGIAR. Application deadlines: 31 December 2019, 31 March and 30 June 2020.
  • The FAO Digital Innovation Team through the e-Agriculture Community of Practice is calling for Good Practices in Digital Agriculture (or e-Agriculture) and Digital Agriculture Solutions to share experiences, solutions, lessons learned and recommendations on various digital agriculture-relevant topics from the members of the e-Agriculture Community of Practice and beyond. Submission deadline: January 31, 2020.
  • Food For Good Challenge by FAMAE offers a 2 millions € prize for innovative and concrete solutions from field to fork to deliver fair, sustainable & healthy food worldwide to everyone. Individuals, teams, businesses, government entities, universities and organizations are eligible to apply. Application deadline: 14 February 2020.

 

CALLS FOR PAPERS/EVENTS

The conference is designed to lead to the next crucial steps in the UN climate change process. Following agreement on the implementation guidelines of the Paris Agreement at COP 24 in Poland last year, a key objective is to complete several matters with respect to the full operationalization of the Paris Climate Change Agreement.

The 20th edition of GeoSmart India will bring together thought leaders, start-ups, tech giants and the Indian geospatial diaspora at India’s largest geospatial event. GeoSmart India promises to be three days of immersive and inspirational talks, thought leadership, workshops, industry and government programs, parallel sessions and exhibitions. ICRISAT is a Knowledge Partner at the event.

Experts from government, industry and academia, and from contexts ranging from Cambodia, Indonesia and Vietnam through the South Korea and Singapore will steer AMR from an issue receiving attention by a narrow group of concerned scientists and politicians, to a mainstream policy priority for governments across the world.

The symposium will address the challenge of achieving sustainable food systems in a global context from different perspectives. The event promises not to be free from controversial debate.

Key food systems and climate change stakeholders will come together to discuss solutions that could make our food systems climate-friendly, and how these commitments can be scaled up throughout the food supply chain. Registrations are now open. 

Conference aims to increase knowledge transfer between the private sector and academia especially regarding entrepreneurship in Africa, the support of African and German SMEs in Africa, as well as the formation and acquisition of qualified personnel. Call for presentations and a draft program will be available soon.

The World Agriculture Summit 2020 will bring together leading academic scientists, researchers and research scholars to exchange and share their experiences and research results on all aspects of Agriculture related fields. Early bird registration: end December 2019.

Submit your abstracts to the two-day Summit that will bring together scientists, gender scholars, policy makers, educationalists, and stakeholders from across Africa and beyond who will be looking at 'Agriculture through the Gender Lens - From Surviving to Thriving in a Climate Changing World'. Registration for GS18 Africa is not yet open. Submission deadline: 31 December 2019.

INTERDROUGHT VI (IDVI) aims to facilitate the development of concepts, methods and technologies associated with plant production in water-limited environments. There will be presenting, discussing and integrating results of both applied and basic research towards the development of solutions for improving crop production under drought-prone conditions.

The Summit will focus on developing effective plans establishing advanced water management techniques to cope up with Kuwait’s 2035 vision and current water situation in the MENA region, to ensure water security and sustainability for all. Registration is now open for speaking and panelist opportunities, exhibition spaces, etc.

Submit your papers and attend to explore various important disciplines of biotechnology and bioengineering through lectures, session lectures and poster presentations, scientific exhibitions, panel discussions, and the B2B meetings with world-renowned speakers and leading specialists involved in Agriculture and Plant Science. If you are interested or involved in animal science through industry or academia, work with animals and livestock and are involved in the care, sustainability and utility of animals, then this event is for you. It will be a platform to discuss a holistic approach to define the role of animal science in solving the world’s food crisis and how we can globally address the challenges of food security, nutrition and production. 

Apply to speak at the ICT4D, where the conversation will focus on digital development bringing together public, private and civil society organizations eager to share practical insights on applying digital technology to development, humanitarian, and conservation challenges.

Hosted by the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska (DWFI), the Conference will explore cutting-edge work being done to ensure the world has enough nutritious food and clean water to sustainably support nearly 10 billion people in the next 30 years.​

ICAHS 4 promises to be a unique event that will create a forum for the interface between science, food production and policy. Scientists, food production representatives and policy makers will come together to understand what is needed and how it can be done with benefits for everyone. Early Bird Registration: Mid February 2020.

Submit your articles in science and practice of the conservation of Earth’s biological diversity, ranging from current research on the impacts of human activity on species and ecosystems, new management strategies to further prevent biodiversity loss, to forecasting future trends in Earth’s biota diversity and distribution. Article deadline: December 12, 2019.

The DNC international conference series is dedicated to advancing research and the implementation of a Nexus Approach to resource management. DNC2020 aims to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable economy. Registration deadline: May 3, 2020.

The four-day event is for agrifood professionals of today, and for the next generation of young professionals, from all over the world to connect values and accelerate innovation. Full paper submission deadline/organized session submission deadline/teaching case submission deadline: 13 January 2020.

The Symposium will bring together researchers and practitioners in the field of monitoring, modelling and optimisation of water systems operations, to present recent advances, identify future research directions, and discuss how to accelerate the adoption of state-of-art methodologies by industry and policy-makers. Extended abstracts will open February and April 2020.

  • CFS 47 plenary Global Thematic Event - October 2020 

Submit your experiences and good practices in the use and application of the CFS Framework for Action for Food Security and Nutrition in Protracted Crisis (CFS-FFA). Submission deadline: 31 March 2020.

A second call is now launched and invites stakeholders to share the experiences and good practices in applying the CFS-FFA by 31 March 2020.

Deadlines are coming up in December/January for ag-water scientists to apply for events, seminars, Young Scientific Programme Committee and other opportunities.

 

LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND RESOURCES

  • CGIAR Webinars: ongoing and archived

From Gender Platform Dec. 12 on Youth realities, aspirations and transitions to adulthood in dryland agricultural systems. GLF Dec. 11 on Measuring the Impact of Investments on Biodiversity. On food system policies, institutions and markets from CGIAR-PIM. On big data use in agriculture from Big Data Platform.

As a part of FAO’s work in transforming National Agricultural Extension and Advisory Services System (EAS), FAO’s Research and Extension Unit wishes to start a webinar series to raise awareness on various challenges and opportunities related to strengthening and reforming EAS. 

The workshop for scientists and students will walk participants through climate change scenarios, population modelling, building a pest/disease model, P&D forecasting, simulation modelling, etc., providing an opportunity to interact with resource persons to roll out the concept as independent research endeavours. 

8 interactive workshops will help you discover how Rikolto and its partners work towards a sustainable food transition, in cities around the globe. Speakers from round the Globe, including Belgium, Honduras, Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil, the Netherlands, the USA, Tanzania, Ecuador will attempt to answer key questions based on their concrete experiences on the ground.

What is the progress in achieving gender equality?  What are the major challenges, and what are the effective means of overcoming those challenges? These are the questions that will be addressed and discussed through the findings and recommendations of the 2019 Annual Trends and Outlook Report, Gender Equality in Rural Africa: From Commitments to Outcomes. Event is co-organized by the Regional Strategic Analysis and Knowledge Support System (ReSAKSS) and IFPRI.​

Opportunity for researchers, scientists, extension officers and students involved in (transdisciplinary) socially inclusive agricultural research to build up facilitation skills through hands-on activities, enabling participants to foster social inclusion through collaborative video-making.
