The 5th Global Science Conference on Climate Smart Agriculture (CSA) will be held in Bali, Indonesia from October 8-10. Co-hosted by the Australian Center for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), the Ministry of Agriculture for the Republic of Indonesia, and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality of the Government of the Netherlands, the theme of this year's CSA Science Conference is Transforming Food Systems Under a Changing Climate.
WLE, through its partners at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the International Crop Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics(ICRISAT), will be presenting work on how agriculture can be transformed from a contributor to environmental degradation to part of the solution.

Side Session - Scaling solar based irrigation: Learning from public and private sector initiatives - Oct. 9, 17:00-18:30, Frangipani meeting room
Co-organized by WLE, CCAFS, IWMI and GIZ, this session will present case studies of initiatives to scale solar powered irrigation systems (SPIS) throughout Africa and Asia. Seen from research, development, government and private sectors, this session aims to identify what needs to happen for SPIS to fulfill the expectation of being a climate-smart irrigation solution. Participants will be able to discuss successes and challenges in on- and off grid SPIS initiatives which integrate technical, financial or institutional solutions to support climate-smart scaling. Alok Sikka, India representative and researcher at IWMI, will present a poster on how CSA has been implemented by various governments in India as part of Theme 6: Fostering enabling policies and institutions.
