I would agree with Geoffrey. In a study I did on produce supply chains into supermarkets in Kenya, the main response came from medium-sized farms, who sort of emerged as a new group in between the smallholders in the traditional channel and the often large farms in the export channel. These medium sized farms can also provide the lead farmer function to link in a number of smaller, but commercially oriented farmers.
