Ms. Sara Mbago-Bhunu is the Director of the East and Southern Africa Division at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) headquarters, based in Rome. She joined IFAD in late 2018 with over 21 years of professional experience in the agricultural and rural development sector across Central, East and Southern Africa. Previously, she worked for the World Bank as a Senior Agricultural Economist for the Central African Republic, DR Congo and Congo. She has also worked with SNV-Netherlands Development Organization as a Country Director from 2013-2016 in DR Congo, and was Agricultural Sector leader in Zambia and Zimbabwe. She served the UNDP in Tanzania in private sector development.
Ms. Mbago-Bhunu holds a master’s degree in Business Administration from Maastricht School of Management, Netherlands, and a BSc in Agricultural Economics from the University of Reading, United Kingdom.
