Productivity

Target and scale

Productive use of agro-ecological landscapes can be improved through existing knowledge and technologies, such as groundwater use for irrigation, rainfall storage solutions and technologies for conservation of soil and nutrients. In Africa, for example, where only about 5 percent of all arable land is irrigated, productivity could be improved by sustainably tapping into groundwater reserves. WLE’s definition of productivity goes beyond maximizing yield and looks at sustainability, livelihoods, gender and productive use. WLE takes an integrated approach, looking at how technologies can be matched to market, policy and institutional incentives to ensure equitable access and sustainable use of resources for increased productivity.
