The purpose of this project is to catalyze increased business thinking and private sector engagement in resource recovery and reuse the project will support the study of the RRR investment climate in East Africa and South Asia, field trials with waste based fertilizer and wastewater, and the transformation of the knowledge into start-up support, curricula, policies and CD manuals for different target groups. The following activities fall under this project.
Business model development and feasibility assessment
Sustainable approaches to the inclusive promotion of soil protection and the rehabilitation of degraded soils, including soil fertility, have been implemented in selected target areas of India. "Research and capacity building for inter-sectorial private sector engagement for soil rehabilitation” is presently conducted by IWMI with focus on South Asia whereas the feasibility study will allow to test approaches for out-scaling of related business options as case study in India including the integration of private sector and product use by local farmers.
Soils, fecal sludge and waste recovery
To catalyze increased business thinking and private sector engagement in resource recovery and reuse (RRR) the project will develop curricula for innovative technologies and investment models that transfer organic municipal, fecal and agroindustrial waste into organic fertilizer for different soils, crops and climates in South Asia. The project will be supported by field trials in South Asia and West Africa to capture a diversity of crops, soils and rainfall regimes.
