Research to resilience: Climate-smart solutions to enhance ecosystem health and strengthen food, nutrition and water security for all
Is the world investing in the right areas of innovation, and are we using the right approaches to take innovation to scale and make the massive changes needed in the global food system?
‘Innovation investment for impact,’ the fourth in WLE’s ‘Research to resilience’ webinar series, provided valuable insights from the WLE-supported Commission on Sustainable Agriculture Intensification (CoSAI) on the current research landscape and effective pathways to improve investment in innovation.
Two ignite talks presented emerging evidence from CoSAI-commissioned studies. The first, from Apoorve Khandelwal of CEEW India, highlighted key lessons from a study of the pathways to innovation. The second, by Jaron Porciello, Co-Director of Ceres2030, indicated the potential gaps in global research and innovation.
Speakers from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), and the Meridian Institute reflected on the findings and shared their own perspectives.
Moderated by CoSAI’s Head of Secretariat, Julia Compton, also taking questions from the audience, the hour-long webinar shed light on the following:
- The investment landscape for innovation in the Global South: who is investing, in what, and where are the gaps?
- The financial instruments, pathways and principles that enable scaling of innovations, and key lessons for success
- How to contribute to a new paradigm, where investment is balanced to deliver environmental and social outcomes, ensuring that food systems operate within planetary and societal boundaries.
