The UN Climate Change Conference COP 25 will take place 2 – 13 December, 2019 in Madrid, Spain, under the Presidency of the Government of Chile and with logistical support from the Government of Spain.
The key objectives of the Conference are to take the next crucial steps in the UN climate change process, complete several matters with respect to the full operationalization of the Paris Climate Change Agreement, and build ambition ahead of 2020, the year in which countries have committed to submit new and updated national climate action plans. Crucial climate action work will be taken forward in areas including finance, the transparency of climate action, forests and agriculture, technology, capacity building, loss and damage, indigenous peoples, cities, oceans and gender.
WLE will be involved through its partners at our lead organization, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) and the CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).
Raising Ambition For Climate Action: Transformative Actions For A Food Secure Future

Co-organised by CCAFS, University of Copenhagen, University of Vermont, Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU), discussion will focus on four action areas for transforming food systems under climate change. It will feature a panel discussion with IWMI's Rachel McDonnell (Strategic Program Director, Water, Climate Change and Resilience) discussing the ways in which water can transform food systems under climate change, and the role the upcoming WLE Commission on Sustainable Agricultural Intensification might play.

Action for Adaptation: How We Manage Water for Climate Change Resilience

Co-organised by IWMI and the World Water Council (WWC) in response to the water background paper of the Global Commission on Adaptation report. IWMI and WWC bring together experts to further catalyze actions by highlighting how smarter water management can deliver critical adaptation solutions.
