Great article and this is exactly why agricultural research must cover both the life science and social science aspects. I spoke with a professor who was working here in Malawi and as she was a trained Plant Biologist she said that the life science aspects are the easy parts, its the social science sides that are the most difficult to tackle. That said, I love all the attention that the development community is giving to women but I fear that unless men are included in these discussions and activities it won't really address the issues related to equality and equity. I am finishing up my service with the Peace Corps in Malawi, Africa and my wife has been very active in 'womens empowerment' programs and we both agree that the young men and men in general need to be worked with as well.
